How to play
- We give you a city — sometimes marked on the map, sometimes just the name.
- You have 15 seconds to tap where you think the opposite side of the world is.
- Do that for five cities. Lowest total kilometres wins.
Miss by a country and you will still have a respectable score. Pin it within 20 km and that city is a perfect zero. That last part is the addiction.
What is an antipode?
An antipode is the point on Earth diametrically opposite you — if you could drill a straight hole through the planet, you would pop out there. Most antipodes of famous cities land in the ocean, which is why “the other side of the world” is a feeling, not a trivia fact you already know.
Oppocity calculates it with geographic coordinates: flip the latitude (north becomes south) and add 180° to the longitude. Then we score how many kilometres your pin is from that true antipode, using a great-circle (haversine) distance.
How scoring works
- Distance is measured in kilometres from your guess to the true antipode.
- Within 20 km counts as perfect (0 km of error) for that city.
- Your run is the sum of five cities. Lower is better.
- Easy shows the starting city on the map. Medium gives city and country. Hard is the name only.
Questions
What is Oppocity?
A free browser geography game where you guess the antipode of a named city. It is an antipode guessing game, not the image-editing app called Opacity.
How do you play the Oppocity geography guessing game?
Read the city, tap the map, repeat five times. Closest total kilometres from the true opposite points on Earth wins.
What is the exact opposite side of the world from cities like London or New York?
New York’s antipode sits in the South Pacific, not Asia. London’s is in the South Pacific too. Oppocity is the fastest way to build that intuition — the map will surprise you.
Is Oppocity free to play on mobile and desktop browsers?
Yes. Open play.oppocity.app on your phone or computer. Optional Pro adds unlimited runs and leaderboards. iOS and Android apps are on the way.
